SEX
Most definitions of sex are simplified to, ‘any act of a sexual nature’. The beliefs around sex can vary by person, community, and culture. We’re not here to put boxes around sex, but rather to understand when a physical or sexual experience can lead to STDs.
STI
ST stands for ‘Sexually Transmitted Infection.’ As the name implies, STIs describe infections transmitted through acts of sex. However, not all STIs are transmitted sexually. Despite the pathway of contracting an STI, most people living with one are still subject to the stigma of having one.
STIGMA
A stigma is a set of negative and often unfair beliefs that a society or group of people have about something. Sex and STDs have long been the subject of stigma. Stigma can affect people with marginalized identities in more significant ways.
